How do flooring warranties work is the definition of a trick question. The short answer is that flooring warranties do not work, they are worthless. However, we are going to let you decide for yourself by opening this standard warranty.
Warranties, what are they good for?
Of course, the answer is absolutely nothing! Here is one of our favorite terms; ” These limited warranties do not apply to water damage, including but not limited to water damage caused by standing water. Any water which remains on floor longer than 30 minutes voids the warranty. How can the company possibly determine how long the water was on your floor? Which brings us to our next “neat” component, the moisture readings must not exceed 14% during installation. Again, how do they obtain this information, do you video the install?
Who investigates the claim?
An independent flooring investigator is assigned to your claim. Have you ever heard of anyone with that job? The point is mute because if they exist, they most certainly are not independent. So when you ask, “how do flooring warranties work”? They do work, just not for the homeowner. The Pergo warranty linked here is actually one of the more “fair” we have reviewed. We didn’t go find the worst offenders such as the new “lifetime transferable warranty”. My first question is always, whose lifetime?
SYP Directs Warranty
We sell real wood; 3/4 solid New Heart Pine is our specialty. We warranty that our floors will outlive your house, most likely being salvaged and resold one day. If water stands on our floors, no problem, just let them dry. If you are worried about water damage, buy a few extra boards and finish them with your floor. What this does is give you replacements with the same patina as your floors. Real wood is an investment, fake floors are a lease.
