Southern Yellow Pine

Home - Post - Southern Yellow Pine

Southern Yellow Pine is not species, in fact the term consist of a dozen or more species and sub-species depending on your definition of the south. Well, that last part is not exactly true as Southern Yellow Pine can be found from Texas to Virginia, by definition.

#2 Knotty Southern Yellow Pine clear coat

#2 select

Alabama Longleaf  Pine

Alabama Longleaf Heart Pine floors are scarce, the trees do not grow on farms. Nor is it harvested using clear cut techniques. Alabama is one the last places hiding mature Longleaf Heart Pine. Pine can be understood, somewhat, by looking at the wine market. Wine markets; where age, species and location determine value or at least put correct “grades” in one rack. In the pine like wine theory; placing Longleaf into the title equates to Dom Perignon.

Michigan Wolverine Fans- Congratulations on making it to the National Championship game.

We celebrated your year by creating a Michigan Wolverine, Maize and Blue

Clear grade 3/4 solid 3 1/4 wide in all 10′ boards!!! This floor is one of a kind, seriously; because unique

does not do it justice. End matched all 10′ boards, all of them! That makes the floor unique but the color

makes it cool. floors The finish, has a UV aluminum oxide coating plus a micro-bevel on the (again) 10’not

10″. So, comparing anything else will be tough- but the price makes it easy. $4.95 for all 1600 sq ft.

Southern Pine floors in Michigan does not include White Pine

Please note: THIS IS NOT WHITE PINE! Nor is it utility grade box store farm grown plantation trash pine. This is old growth authentic longleaf southern yellow pine. The differences are abundant and easy to spot when comparing boards. White is plain, void of character and 1/2 as hard as Southern Yellow Pine. In our opinion, White pine is good for walls only and should not be considered an option for SYP.

“ Jason and Heather from SYP Direct Flooring have been an absolute delight to work with during our recent transaction. My wife and I are involved in updating, while trying to retain the character of a 124 yr. old building along Michigan’s lake shore. The original flooring was local Yellow Pine and trying to find authentic Southern Pine floors in Michigan can be difficult. Jason was an invaluable part of recreating the building as it once was. Heather was on top of getting back answers to questions of any sort. The quality of the was outstanding and just what we needed. These folks were helpful, friendly, gracious and fun throughout the process. Michigan customer reviews SYP Direct

Michigan customer provides best flooring review for SYP Direct, excerpt from full review on Google.

“This project, on paper, should have been a real challenge:  The floor is about 25 feet from the water’s edge so there is plenty of humidity in the summer, and in the winter the temperatures can plunge well below zero and cold air is dry air!  Also, the floor is over a crawl space.  So, lots of moisture change in this location.  i went with a historical look using antique ‘hand-cut’ nails face-nailed in counter-sunk holes.  I then finished with a hand-rubbed oil finish.  The results are stunning!  We receive many compliments from visitors and craftsmen alike.  And the floor is as flat and stable as the day(s) I installed it.  Very, very happy with how it turned out. ” (Newbury, G.)

What is Knotty Pine?

Knotty Pine

What is #2 Knotty Pine

What is “Knotty pine”? Simple, it is a generic term for pine with knots, not a big surprise. What may surprise you, Knotty Pine is not a grade. #2 SYP is not a true grade and differs from mill to mill, i.e. floors or lumber. Lumber mills sort based on defects, knots included. But when a mill produces flooring, Heart Pine flooring, it is sorted based on the amount of visible heartwood, not defects. Age creates not only gorgeous colors and character, it creates stability. When comparing your local #2 SYP with our floors, get samples and ask for local customers. Comparisons reveal the facts, one is plain and void of character, while the other defines character.

What is Knotty Pine and what it is not!

Knotty pine should be used with the #2, as in #2 Southern Yellow “knotty” pine. #2 is not a defect grade, it fact at SYP Direct is simply means the board does not contain more than 50% heartwood. Heartwood is better known as character, defined by colors including brown and red.  Heart content is measured in sap and heartwood, color (variance in colors); many times in wide planks you see the heartwood running right down the middle.

What is knotty Pine- it is not full holes.

Knots are not holes at SYP Direct. However, at the publicly traded liquidation store, the descriptions tell you that select southern pine has holes, as all knotty pine will have holes. I tell you one thing, be careful of floors that are shorter than 30″ with holes that is the garbage from the garbage. (see examples on our Pinterest Page)

Questions such as What is Knotty Pine are fine when you are researching, but when are shopping it opens you up to misinformation.

Get samples, get references and most importantly, get the grade specifications in writing. Some of our “competitors” offer a #2 Knotty Pine, with the word Select added in front. Now in the real world that means ‘hand selected’, not machine selected but by hand. What they use if for is to up the price for no reason. How do we know? Read the fine print, the “sort out almost all the cracks and defects”? If you are paying for Select Knotty Pine, or any grade (in any species) it should be a perfect representation of that grade.…at the very least.

What is Knotty Pine? – It is 1 of our most frequently asked questions.

Personal Service and Customer Service are a common theme in our online review and those kept private, i.e. emails to office. When you do business with Southern Yellow Pine Direct, you are doing business with one of our founders/owners. Customer service during the sales process is great, but the support during, shipping, delivery and installation always get the most praise.

How to install real wood floors

Finish and Install

How to install real wood floors- it takes time

How to install a real wood floor is the question and finding the right installer is job one. It is the first thing we tell people asking how to install real wood floors.  When installing a real wood floor, of course, you want the proper skill set, but being honest is the most important quality.  Installing a real wood floor takes time, and time is money for anyone paying labor, such as your local flooring store. Quick sounds great because you want to get your house back in order as soon as possible. However, quick means fake wood floors as installing a real wood floor takes time.

More FAQ

How to install real wood floors when moisture is an issue

Wood is hydroscopic, it will absorb (expand) moisture when exposed to high humidity and will expel (shrink) it in low humidity environments. Southern Pine on the microscopic level is more porous, than Oak for example, which allows the species to handle moisture changes better than most hardwoods.  Before wood floors are ready for your home, the moisture content must be normalized, i.e., consistent throughout the house. So, acclimation is one to key when asking how to install real wood floors.

Our Southern Pine- installing a real wood floor

Southern Pine is Kiln dried prior to manufacture or milling into floors. A Kiln is a closed system using temperature, humidity and air flow to lower the woods moisture content. Moisture content is the measure of the weight of the water in the wood, expressed in a percentage. A “kiln dried” grade of Southern Pines moisture content should be at around 12% with a maximum of 15% and settling around 10%-12% depending on width.

Storing your wood floors

Storing your floors prior to installation is about controlling moisture. Moisture will damage wood floors, all of them not just the real stuff. The good news is that we have some time-tested methods designed to prevent moisture issues and visual damage to your floors. Proper storage and handling make the acclimation process much easier.

Pre-condition prior to installing a real wood floor

How to install real wood floors, the right way must include some preparation. Preparation is necessary, including acclimation Do not skip this important step, cheap and takes very little time. The first step, apply a pre-conditioner to the face of every board. Apply a light coat evenly and let it dry. After this application, you will not have to worry about “splotchy” or an uneven finish around the knots. Your installer should insist on that step if they understand pine.

Real wood flooring and job site acclimation

Acclimating a Southern Pine floor allows time for the wood to adjust itself, enabling the floor to a reach a stable, balanced state. In this state the wood neither absorbs nor expels moisture. The state is referred to as EMC or equilibrium moisture content. Simply put, EMC is the consistent and stable differential between wood floor and sub-floor, i.e., no hot spots. Wood floors should be stacked in each room which will be receiving the floors. Acclimation time, generally speaking is between 5-14 days which can be shorten with proper preparation.

Nashville

Wood Floor Shopping

Nashville Tennessee, an ultra modern southern city, but as the birth place of country music it is southern first and foremost. At one time there was a pine flooring mill in every small town across Tennessee. Today, because of Southern Pine durability and dimensional stability pine builds houses, flooring an afterthought. The pine acreage once slow growing Southern Pine is now farmed using quick method which does not allow Heartwood to develop. Over the past 3 or 4 years we noticed a big increase in both homeowners and builders in Nashville calling for something to substitute for Antique Reclaimed Heart Pine.

View On Airbnb2 Bedroom Loft on Chattanooga's North Shore

New Heart Pine is not “new” it is just not reclaimed, yet.

The word new simply indicated it is not reclaimed Heart Pine. On the contrary, our timber is taking from private landholders in small batches. Finding Heart Pine in Nashville requires you get past the massive hardwood mills in your area, not to mention the spec houses being built. However, historic restorations, renovations and or homeowner driven new construction allows for choice. Nashville, congratulations on your amazing growth, let us help you add value to all those remodels and restorations.

The best substitue for Reclaimed Heart Pine

What are you looking at, $4. 00 or $24?

Caribbean Heart Pine or Antique

Does anyone remember the commercial “is it live or is it Memorex”? It is what I think of when I email this photo to customers making the decision to buy age, or create it Caribbean Heart Pine. And that word create should jump out at you because that always means more money. How so? Antique Reclaimed Heart Pine needs nothing but sand and poly, or clear coat. On the other hand, Caribbean Heart Pine, while it looks great; in order to match the age of good reclaimed floors requires experience. Adding age requires adding distress to the edges and or face of the floors. Wire brushing and “French Bleed”, darkening and distressing the edges are both excellent ways to create the illusion of age.

Nashville Investors

Rule number one, buy real wood. Real wood is an investment, everything else just a lease. Homeowner equity becomes shareholder profits. A product is something you buy and use then replace, an investment provides some form of return.

Jason Howard Investment Flooring Post 2018.

Solid Heart Pine floors are an investment not a product

Nashville is no different from any other city, 95% of the flooring professionals push veneers or worse, composites. First of all, not all engineered (veneers) are all bad, but unless they have a 4MM wear layer, or better, they cannot be refinished. Unfortunately, years of carpet are now being deposited in your landfills with the next waive being composites.

Nashville

The footprint of fake wood

If  you listen to most “environmental” warriors, logging and timber is the equivalent of fossil fuels when accessing a carbon footprint. This is ridiculous. Managed timber doesn’t lend itself to wildfires. And real wood doesn’t end up in the landfill. If every house only had one floor over its lifetime, how many installations would that save?  Real wood floors will outlive your house. In fact, one day they will be reclaimed or salvaged as they are reinvented a century later. Try that with laminate.

Why do people buy ‘single use’ floors? A product designed with planned obsolescence ridiculous promises and useless warranties. Manufactures and their distributors have four conventions per year and one huge one just to talk about all the new and latest technology that they are going to sell homeowners. All of this is to perpetuate a population of consumers and salespeople buying into a false premise, fake is better than real.

sypdirect.net, August 2022

Nashville do not settle

View On Airbnb2 Bedroom Loft on Chattanooga’s North Shore

Nashville do not settle for a flooring lease, buy one that will outlive your home and one day be reclaimed. It is not too expensive, not at all, but you will hear the opposite when shopping. Trust logic and get the floor you want, buy real wood.

1×6 #2 Southern New Heart Pine

Knotty Pine

1×6 #2 Southern New Heart Pine

First of all, a 1 x 6 #2 Southern New Heart Pine grade is very deceptive desription. It is neither 3/4 nor 6″; as for the #2 Southern New Heart Pine that might be the most deceptive of all because it is not a defected grade like lumber yard #2 Knotty. To find out more read Southern Yellow Pine is not a species and or What is Heartwood?

Pictures of #2 Grade Southern aka Knotty Pine

Each photo you see on this page is our #2 Knotty Southern Yellow Pine.  And without a doubt, the 1×6 is the most popular width, hands down. The value of these floors is found in the character, as evidenced by color. The colors, a result of heart and sapwood are the character and variation we want from the species. Of course, we offer select, prime and clear floors- we just like the knots a little better.

#2 based on lack of heartwood

A board with less than 50% heart content on the face, it becomes a #2 grade, not because of defects but lack of proximity to the center of tree. Our Heart Pine floors range 50-80% heart content with more narrow grades having a higher percentage of heart to sap.

Refinishing Pine Floors

Finish and Install

Refinishing pine floors is restoring

Want an example of refinishing Pine floors? They are everywhere, flooring well over a hundred years old, some much older, being turned into the showpiece of a restoration. North and South, Southern yellow pine floors were the standard for centuries because it is both durable and beautiful. White Oak and others, all newcomers.

Rustic, Classic and Modern

Pine floors truly fit within any style, from modern to rustic. If you need examples of the durability of Southern Pine, look no further than the Antique Reclaimed pine market. Many times durability gets confused with pine being a “softwood”, while true you should understand two important additions to that statement. First, not all Southern Pine is the same, not even close. Second, the character of Southern Pine allows for easy blending of even the worst scratches, simply by hiding them.

Refinishing pine floors allows the owners to upgrade from Southern Pine to Antique Reclaimed Pine without buying anything at all or tearing anything out for that matter. An example we offer folks goes like this; One owner buys LVT the owner Southern Pine, in ten years one has an asset worth $30,000, what does the other one has? Another floor cover, whatever the hottest new trend may be in ten years and the privilege of paying to have the old one torn out. Now most homeowners go on oblivious to what they have given up when they buy that first floor, not you because now you know the truth. Real wood is the only choice. So refinishing pine should never be option number two, do not even consider doing anything else until you see what is under the finish.

Finish the refinish

Finishing is part of refinishing, get it. Of course you do, we want to simplify this process that some advice givers make confusing. Relax, the hard part is over as the “re” part of refinish seems to cause the most difficulty for some. Anyone can finish a floor, but not everyone can make your floor look its absolute best. Maximize the value of your investment by creating a showpiece for your home.

Choose finish type with desired characteristics

Is it easy to maintain? What about chemical or VOC’s? Clear or tinted? The number of choices outside of Home Depot can be a little intimidating. Start with your goals, protection from dogs? Does that mean protection like a bar top or easy to fix? The plot thickens, right? Our company finishes Southern Yellow Pine using Monocoat, Bona and Tung Oil finishes all of which create wonderful floors but they are very different. For a discussion on finish the finishers comfort zone or style should play big part in decision. If your local professionals have track record with a certain finish type which fits your goals, perfect. We are here to help and walk you through the entire process customized to your project.  If you are ready, contact me today and we can get started. If not keep researching your floor, it is an investment, keep that in mind!

Refinish & Reclaim

Refinishing sanding heart pine unfinished wide plank caribbean heart pine
Caribbean Heart Pine

Preparation for Refinishing

Preparation for the room is an essential part of refinishing pine. We suggest one room at a time, tape it off to control the dust, you will be glad you did.  Refinishing any type of floor is messy and you don’t want the dust and debris to end up all over your home. Face nailed flooring, the look of antique pine. Countersink any nails that have worked their way up to keep them from damaging the sander, logical. Maybe the most important, clean the floors. You must remove as much of the dirt and debris as possible before sanding. (Tremont Nail Company, if you are interested)

Refinishing pine floors requires removing the old one

You need a floor sander, buffer and the finish of your choice; the “sander” can be machine or human”. This is one area that we urge clients to use someone with experience, it might be a friend or relative but do not practice with your floor. However, do not search for installation professionals, you need a specialist. Confused? Yup, it gets that way now that everyone wants us to buy floor covers, we call them leases. If you are a DIY; depending on the floor you will need several different grades of sandpaper to reach the smooth surface desired. Practice in closet, best advice we can provide along with give us a call to see if SYP Direct has a local professional.

Step One

Choosing the right professional for this project starts with the requirement they refinish not replace. Remember your floor refinished properly can become the showpiece (again) of the house, or it might be torn out for laminate. This is not a decision to take lightly, hold your ground and get a second opinion.  So where do you search for a true refinish specialist? If you search Google you get so many results, what about Angie’s List?

Buying real wood flooring online can lead you to Angie’s list for an installation professional. Remember, Angie get her money, i.e. the customers are contractors or brands who advertise. Who will tell you the truth about pine and real wood floors in general? SYP Direct presents the A List, a resource without agenda. The amount of misinformation passed off as a “resource” designed to help you find your floor, by our totals, about 95% of it.

Where do you buy Southern Pine like those around Indiana?  SYP Direct, delivers Alabama Pine to Indiana as if you were next door. Local pine anywhere, we will take care of you. Now let me tell everyone about your state as we take COVID-19 2020 flooring tour.

Quick Indiana Quiz

So what would you say Indiana is “known for”,  what pops into your mind? First thought, Hoosiers, a basketball movie, the Indianapolis 500, or how about Larry Bird, Peyton Manning or Reggie Miller? We are sports people and not everyone has such interest, so here are 15 things we didn’t know about Indiana.

Find our #2 Southern Pine on this Indiana customer video

An Indiana customer provides one of the best visual examples of our Southern Yellow #2 Knotty Pine.  Griswold, M. outside of Indianapolis provides one the best examples of our #2 Southern Pine before sand and finish. The video walk through allows a visual example of heartwood, i.e. heart content via heart versus knotty pine. A great tool for those, like the writer, need a visual example of more than one picture, board or sample. Video of Griswold walk through-click here.

Indianapolis Indiana Showroom

Indianapolis, Indiana investors put our Southern Yellow #2 grade Knotty Pine into a bar and a bar with concerts. SKYbar 247 and Taps & Dolls are both examples of investment flooring. The local Indy ownership understood this concept from day one, very unusual. The local Indy owners put our 1 x 10 wide plank Southern Pine on their venue floor. Imagine the answers they received when asking about wide plank Southern Pine as a dance floor? Why? It looks amazing and they can re -invent it when and if the time comes whereas single use covers must be purchased and repurchased. They get it!

The ultimate Investment floor

SKYBar 247 per monetary return hands down the investment floor of decade! All that money and in few years when they decide to refinish the floors, it will reveal the gorgeous patina that only time can produce. You have either seen or seen pictures of Antique Heart Pine, the colors are hard to reproduce via technique. However, our two Indianapolis investors realized that the floor everyone told them not buy will be the show piece, when they sell. Investment flooring is real wood, single use floors are really just a lease.

Why SYP Direct ?

In 2019 SYP Direct shipped a floor to Hawaii making it all 50 states and Canada maintaining an A+ BBB rating. So when we say shipping our Southern Pine floors to Indianapolis is easy, we mean comparably. Shipping can be overlooked, when in reality isn’t it just as important as the price per square foot? If you floor arrives in Indianapolis with tongue and grooves damaged by a forklift operator the price becomes irrelevant you cannot buy it cheap enough. We have solved that issue with our custom pallet and ordering system designed to make sure you have plenty of boards. In fact, we keep up with all the “stuff” customers build with the extra materials. A few examples include; bar tops,  workstations doors, barn doors, accent walls, and even a chicken coup.

Buying flooring online with SYP Direct

Buying floors online, unfinished real wood floors should involve at least one conversation, it is not e-commerce. E-commerce does not work with unfinished, long, heavy real wood floors, which by the way, our customers may have never seen before. It is safe to say that while our customers find us online, they are not buying flooring online. We are local and we make your project personal. Ask to talk to a customer close to you, hear the stories of our customer service.

#2 SYP pictures

Knotty Pine

Is Knotty Pine a grade?

What is #2 Southern Yellow Pine aka Knotty pine? Simple, it is a generic term for pine with knots, not  a big surprise. What may surprise you, Knotty Pine is not a grade. #2 SYP is not a true grade and differs from mill to mill, i.e. floors or lumber. Lumber mills sort based on defects, knots included. But when a mill produces flooring, Heart Pine flooring, it is sorted based on the amount of visible heartwood, not defects. An astounding 95% of pine floors are produced by dimensional lumber mills using Loblolly or similar farmed species. Age creates not only gorgeous colors and character, it creates stability. When comparing your local #2 SYP with our floors, get samples and ask for local customers. Comparisons reveal the facts, one is plain and void of character, while the other defines character.

#2 Southern Yellow “Knotty” Pine

Our #2 Southern Yellow Pine pictures help everyone comparing our grades, heart content or deciding on a style. Pictures, however are just the jumping off point. Pictures taken from studios for marketing do not give a realistic view of anything, not even color. On the other hand, customer iPhone pictures are not always the best quality. So our #2 Southern Yellow Pine pictures offer a great overview of our floors, we suggest samples to answer an final questions.

Alabama Longleaf Pine

According to a report from the Louisiana State University  Agricultural department; there are over 214 million acres of timberland in the United States, with 30% being Southern Pine.  Remeber, Southern pine is not species rather several species. Longleaf pine is found on private land in small batches, it is not farmed. The average age of a farmed tree will be under 20 years compared to 80 and up for Longleaf pine taken for floors. Want more information? Visit front page and find out more!

Alabama Pine Lumber

SYP Direct mills Alabama Longleaf Pine lumber into unfinished Knotty and Heart Pine flooring. We mill to order, for homeowners and builders, with no minimum order. We can customize your order in ways that save you time and money. Grades, widths, length (s) are just three of the ways our mill to order model benefits our customers. There is no other SYP Direct, we say yes to real wood, every single time.

Is a picture worth any words?

As with any floor, #2 Southern Yellow Pine, aka Knotty Pine pictures can be staged or done professionally, even in studio. That is not what we do, many of our pictures come from customer phones, but they are real. Our customers are not professional photographers and we love the ‘honest’ look, before and after the finish. Furthermore, each picture we show you, we have access to either the ‘recipe’ or the customer.Almost every customer of SYP Direct made their decision on grade by studying our #2 Southern Yellow Pine pictures versus those of New Heart Pine.

Heart versus Knotty Pine

Our Heart Pine pictures compared to those of our #2 Knotty pine gives you a feel for the whole floor, not just one sample or board. First time callers often begin by saying ” we saw this picture online and love the look, what is it”? While pictures are not perfect when have multiples and a variety of finish types they do the job.

Prefinished Heart Pine

Heart Pine, Our favorite Finishes

Prefinished Heart Pine- (July 20 2021) SYP Direct has 3600 square feet of 1 x 8 x 12′ New Heart Pine with our finish partner in North Carolina. We are simply waiting for the next customer to tell us how they want to finish their new Prefinished Heart Pine floor! We discuss some of your finish options below, but these are by no means all we offer. Along with Bona and Monocoat, SYP offers 12 standard colors. Choose weather to have ends matched or leave them straight, no bevel..no problem. Do not wait, first come first serve.

Southern Yellow Pine Direct offers small batch Prefinished Heart Pine- unique business model designed for homeowners. Inventory, of our own floors is rare, we finish to order. However, our production schedule means lead times are max 3 weeks unless choosing between all the options takes longer than expected.

What is the best pine finish?

Normally Prefinished Heart Pine indicates 3 1/4 or 5 1/8 widths, short lengths and rarely is the best pine finish used. Why? Money of course! Manufactures of prefinished pine use truckload scraps, or shorts to create the standard 1-7′ lengths, with average board around 18″ long. At SYP Direct we believe you deserve better, including the best pine finish on top of highest quality floors. We are going to take a look at three of our favorites, Bona, Monocoat, Minwax and Woca.

Minwax

The Minwax story dates back to 1904. Founder Arthur Harrison developed a product designed to keep moisture out of buildings. It was not until 1940 that Minwax became a product for Do It Yourself homeowners. ” The product itself was redesigned and improved for homeowner use, and the wax in the finish was replaced by varnish gums, making the new Wood Finish™ the first modern “quick-drying” product.”

Minwax in our shop

At SYP Direct we have been a long time user of Minwax products. For example, attempting to match an old floor or replicate one a from customer photo, i.e. a magazine. Minwax is easy to work with, in fact, we use it all the time in our shop. Remember,  be sure and precondition the sample before you apply any stain. This applies to any finish not just Minwax, furthermore pre-stain treatment prevents splotching. The pictures below, from our  shop, some are rougher than others; remember we are usually just trying to match a floor.

Bona High Traffic Natural

Bona High Traffic is the ideal finish for the pine in the most demanding environments.  These include restaurants, hotel lobbies, airports and office reception areas. Professionals and builders love Bona for its durability, and as natural substitute for traditional oil and wax wood floor treatments. Bona offers both site finish products and industrial finishes which are applied using commercial UV process.

Bona industrial coatings  are at the forefront of the new wave of floor treatments. High traffic protection is the combination of deep penetrating oils and UV top coats. Our  7″ Wide plank prefinished Heart Pine are in all 10′ and 12′ lengths. Let me repeat, 7″ wide Heart Pine with a Bona Finish in all 10’s and 12’s. Bayou Rustics is manufacturer of small batch finished Heart Pine Flooring.

Monocoat by Rubio

Monocoat is plant based finish that adheres at first contact with the microns of your wood floor. This molecular bonding becomes part of the floor like no other finish.  Not only is a second coat not required, the finished wood will not accept one. Monocoat by Rubio is an all-natural plant-based oil finish for wood flooring.  VOC-free and 100% non-toxic, Monocoat is easy to use and safe. All Rubio finishes are easy to maintain including repairs, which are a breeze. For more on our prefinished floors using Monocoat by Rubio contact us ASAP.

 Woca Finishes

WOCA Industrial is a specially formulated stain designed for pre-treatment of UV- and oiled floors. The reactive stains from WOCA are a perfect way to antique a Heart Pine floor, for example. WOCA Color Oils, contains fine pigments in nine different colors, however, there are endless color options.  For instance, most DIY can create custom colors simply by mixing the oils. Prefinished Heart Pine using WOCA Color Oils look amazing, again great for antiquing.

About our company

SYP Direct, or Southern Yellow Pine Direct sells newly cut, not reclaimed, heart pine and rustic longleaf pine flooring.  Furthermore, SYP Direct simplifies the pine flooring market. In fact, we spend time with almost every customer discussing common misconceptions and misinformation.  An easy way to understand the big picture; pine should be sold just like wine, age, species (grapes) and location define the final product, and therefore price. Solid wood floors, pine or hardwoods, constitutes and investment that will outlive your house, i.e. reclaimed one day.
