Search with Alexis “find pine near me”, or find pine floors near me. Most of us do not go beyond “the lady in our phone” for research. However, searching for pine floors locally, or “pine near me” can lead to some misinformation and confusion.
Floor covering specialist will tell you 100 reasons why fake is better than real. All designed to create repeat business, with single use laminate, LVT or engineered covers. You can have real wood, you are not crazy, real wood floors still exist.
A + Rated Better Business Bureau
The reason for our A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and all of our positive reviews is simple; we have never not once taken advantage of a customer. Never do we misrepresent our flooring, in fact educating our buyers is part of our day to day business.
In reality, you can glue down Southern Pine in standard 3/4 thickness. No problem, you want to glue down Southern Pine you use Bostiks Best. It has a built in moisture barrier and is urethane based so that is allows movement like a nail. But today, in this blog glue down Southern Pine is 1/2 inch, with the long lengths up to 14′ an option. SYP Direct does not sell anything but real wood and this 1/2 glue southern pine is perfect for new construction or a remodel. See more on Pinterest or Houzz.
Glue down Southern Pine don’t buy engineered and pay more for a veneer.
We have 1/2 inch glue down Southern Pine
So if you want to glue down Southern Pine, the 3/4 thick type; it is not a problem, just use the proper adhesive which is Bostiks Best. Bostiks is polymer based and allows microscopic movement, just like a nail. Plus it has a built in moisture barrier, the stuff is marine grade and truly an amazing product. For more information on our products and Bostiks, including customers that have done it already, some 10 years ago.

Southern Yellow Pine Direct is the homeowners’ resource for the best pine flooring on the market. However, we are so much more than just flooring. In fact, SYP Direct works with your contractor if you are purchasing your own materials. Do not get stuck with ‘bundled’ services, finish and installation does not have to include the floors. Why should you be held captive? To find out more about SYP Direct- contact us now.
Pine Flooring Experts– is another reason to buy from SYP Direct. Southern Pine represents about 5% of the flooring market, and unfinished pine is a small piece market. It is heavy, long and unprofitable compared to engineered and LVT floors. Very few flooring installation professionals understand Southern Pine or Heart pine. We do, and with over 3 million square feet delivered to homeowners our experience is unmatched when talking about pine floors.
SYP Direct offers 1000 square feet of 3/4 x 3 1/8 clear pine (no knots) finished as seen with Aluminum Oxide top coat.
Box store pine floors are not as good as ours and they are more expensive. Let me repeat, apples to apples they way more expensive. And even their cheaper stuff is stupid expensive for what it is, or certainly what it is not. In world where laminate and hardwood are regularly used to market some floor cover, you might want to use a healthy skepticism when floor shopping. Rule number 1- or at least the question to ask when promised a lifetime transferable warranty; so forever?
My name is Jason and this is about box store pine floors
Why is this guy putting his name is the heading? Great question. The same reason you are going to see the term ‘box store pine floors’ over and over; we do not pay for advertising. Much easier said than done, if you are not on the first page its tough. So my great Do It Yourself project has been this website. I wrote every word and am responsible for every typo; but nowhere on this site will I lie or show you a picture that is not our floor and client (client proxy, i.e. builders). Welcome to SYP Direct
Box Store Pine Floors are short, by definition they are not select.
“Select” Knotty Pine and assume it means ‘the best’. No, not all. Select, by definition, indicates ‘hand selected’ during the sorting process. Only problem, it is all ‘hand sorted’ unless you are keeping defects in the grade. Lumber Liquidators does sell select pine, it was selected to be sold for pulp or thrown away, but still selected.
Select is hand selected
Select, or hand select wood floors all come from the same mill. Wait Jason, all box store pine comes from the same mill, right? Think about that for a minute- what size mill, what mill would be willing to sell size at “discount”- not in the real world. Sounds good in sales pitch, but Southern Pine Flooring mills do no business directly with any of box stores. Lumber mills, yes but that is part of the problem- read What is Southern Pine.

Box stores are great, box store pine floors are not even good compared to YOUR options.
Did you know that we can take our 12′ boards and finish them based on your specifications. Yup, finished to order. Not to be confused with prefinished box store pine floors. A factory or flat line finish is not something that becomes affordable without some volume, so sometimes smaller projects will not work, for people with budgets. In fact, you can finish your cabinets, stairs and trim, all in the same place.

Our Mill Run Heart Pine, might also be seen in our photos as Character Grade which we had to change a few years back because it is not character grade pine. It is Heart Pine, in 12′ boards sorting with same concept as Euro Character White Oak, we took out the Euro of course. However, Character Pine is now being used to define tavern and cabin grade which a finish. My cousin Bub would call that lipstick on a pig.

In conclusion, we love Home Depot and Lowes- but their prefinished solid pine floors are a mass produced product.
Caveat’ to that statement, we need lead time and you need to be doing more than one room. I wish it were different but this process is not off the shelf, custom is the proper description. Luxury flooring that beats box store pine prices, no kidding. Not to mention we can finish wide planks and 12′ boards, ask them that at lumber liquidators or whatever they call themselves now. Southern Pine floors in Michigan does not include White Pine
Please note: THIS IS NOT WHITE PINE! Nor is it utility grade box store farm grown plantation trash pine. This is old growth authentic longleaf southern yellow pine. The differences are abundant and easy to spot when comparing boards. White is plain, void of character and 1/2 as hard as Southern Yellow Pine. In our opinion, White pine is good for walls only and should not be considered an option for SYP.

“ Jason and Heather from SYP Direct Flooring have been an absolute delight to work with during our recent transaction. My wife and I are involved in updating, while trying to retain the character of a 124 yr. old building along Michigan’s lake shore. The original flooring was local Yellow Pine and trying to find authentic Southern Pine floors in Michigan can be difficult. Jason was an invaluable part of recreating the building as it once was. Heather was on top of getting back answers to questions of any sort. The quality of the was outstanding and just what we needed. These folks were helpful, friendly, gracious and fun throughout the process. This has been one of the best purchasing/customer service experiences I’ve had.” – Gary Miller, Grand Rapids, Mi. – 2017 Heart Pine Floors Michigan

Michigan customer reviews SYP Direct
Michigan customer provides best flooring review for SYP Direct, excerpt from full review on Google.
“This project, on paper, should have been a real challenge: The floor is about 25 feet from the water’s edge so there is plenty of humidity in the summer, and in the winter the temperatures can plunge well below zero and cold air is dry air! Also, the floor is over a crawl space. So, lots of moisture change in this location. i went with a historical look using antique ‘hand-cut’ nails face-nailed in counter-sunk holes. I then finished with a hand-rubbed oil finish. The results are stunning! We receive many compliments from visitors and craftsmen alike. And the floor is as flat and stable as the day(s) I installed it. Very, very happy with how it turned out. ” (Newbury, G.)

Does pine make good flooring? The answer, Southern Pine does and mature Southern Pine makes Heart Pine. Southern Pine has been making good flooring for a very long time. And while we are not going to talk about it right now, pine makes good walls and ceilings too.
Does pine make good floors, yes says the owner of SYP Direct Floors.
Why do I use the phrase of course? In the above paragraph when we say ” for a very long time”, we mean centuries-now that is a lifetime transferable warranty! Some argue pine is too soft, so there pine cannot make good flooring. Wrong, our new Heart Pine has the same Janka rating as Red Oak but that is not the point. Does pine make good flooring, check out these pictures.
Does Pine make good flooring because of the character?
What does character mean? Most of the time when you hear something has character it means old, vintage or rustic. Well, our Southern Pine is old but not reclaimed which is where the name New Heart Pine is derived, to distinguish from antique. Does pine make good flooring because of character- check out these DIY clients.
Pine, Southern Pine is as green as it gets, you know Eco-friendly green.
Southern Pine forests are some of the most productive and sustainable timberland in the world, capturing large amounts of carbon from the air and storing it in lumber used every day. Southern Pine is grown and manufactured in the U.S. South, further improving local economies, reducing transportation costs and minimizing impacts on the environment. Furthermore, pine floors will outlive your house, unlike floor substitutes such as LVT or laminate.
Southern Pine is not a species, but does pine good flooring?
Southern Pine is not a species but rather a geographic description of where these pine species thrive. Adding yellow, as in Southern Yellow Pine indicates we are talking about the “hard pines”, i.e not White or Red pine. The four main species within the Southern Pine definition are long leaf, lob lolly, short leaf and slash.
Density of Southern Pine
Southern Pine has the highest specific gravity of all common structural lumber species, providing superior fastener-holding power and load-bearing capacity. According to SPIB Grading Rules, dense lumber must meet a minimum number of annual growth rings per inch, as well as a minimum portion of each growth ring must be made up of the “late wood” or “summer wood”, the darker part of the growth ring.
Pine built our country and a pine floor will outlive your home
The best Southern Pine floor depends on the buyer. For example, there are some people who want knots, but just not “too many of them”. Rustic does not equate to defects or that many knots. In our #2 grade, for example, would be called heart pine when purchased in a package or from a box store. If a customer wants zero knots, we have that grade with our (c and better) clear grade southern pine.

Southern Yellow Pine Direct is your local source for the best pine floors along with the best pine flooring prices. However, we are so much more than just flooring. Custom stairs, lap siding, gap siding, post, and beams, shipped directly to your job site. SYP Direct works with your contractor if you purchase your own materials. The best pine floors rarely found within bundled services, why? Simple, the “best for you” are solid real wood which most take too much time. However, the length of floor provides clues to the origins, i.e. the mill. Say no to bundled services, contract your own floors. SYP Direct provides all the support you need to convince or find a new installer.
Why does SYP Direct have the best pine floors?
The best pine floors, the best pine flooring prices and customer service beyond compare. An A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, in our business, tells you all you need to know about the best pine floors. The best considers, price, % floors returned, quality (i.e. waste factor) and other variables based on where you live. Never do we misrepresent our flooring, in fact educating our buyers is part of our day to day business. We are polite and operate with a transparency that shocks most first-time callers, “we seem too good to be true” has been said on many occasions.

SYP Direct Pine Flooring Reviews
At SYP Direct we are proud of our pine flooring reviews, we earned our A+ Better Business Bureau rating. So when we see large companies not playing by the rules we get upset, but we have discovered a new low. Purchasing pine flooring reviews and likes while completely suppressing actual customer reviews. Big deal? Search engines use reviews to rank, Google certainly places importance on them when they are Google reviews!
How do the purchase reviews? Not in name, but through a third party ‘management’ company who orchestrates the entire social media search charade. Ask them for a local review, a happy client who might share a photo perhaps? Clover Lea pine floors from Lumber Liquidators has a 4.5 star review, nonsense. Do your research but ask questions locally, do not rely on the public relations firm of a billion dollar company repairing a terrible reputation for dishonest practices.
Read the reviews, the thread is customer service along with the best pine floors. SYP Direct is not magic, things do go wrong, but we fix them. Customer service is the same with 200 to 2000 square feet, furthermore, we are willing educate our clients. In fact, we validate what they know to be true, that real wood is better than fake. Going to bat for the homeowner is not over and above, it is what we do every day. Furthermore, we do increase the ‘best pine flooring prices’ on smaller orders.
Nashville Tennessee, an ultra modern southern city, but as the birth place of country music it is southern first and foremost. At one time there was a pine flooring mill in every small town across Tennessee. Today, because of Southern Pine durability and dimensional stability pine builds houses, flooring an afterthought. The pine acreage once slow growing Southern Pine is now farmed using quick method which does not allow Heartwood to develop. Over the past 3 or 4 years we noticed a big increase in both homeowners and builders in Nashville calling for something to substitute for Antique Reclaimed Heart Pine.
New Heart Pine is not “new” it is just not reclaimed, yet.
The word new simply indicated it is not reclaimed Heart Pine. On the contrary, our timber is taking from private landholders in small batches. Finding Heart Pine in Nashville requires you get past the massive hardwood mills in your area, not to mention the spec houses being built. However, historic restorations, renovations and or homeowner driven new construction allows for choice. Nashville, congratulations on your amazing growth, let us help you add value to all those remodels and restorations.

What are you looking at, $4. 00 or $24?
Caribbean Heart Pine or Antique
Does anyone remember the commercial “is it live or is it Memorex”? It is what I think of when I email this photo to customers making the decision to buy age, or create it Caribbean Heart Pine. And that word create should jump out at you because that always means more money. How so? Antique Reclaimed Heart Pine needs nothing but sand and poly, or clear coat. On the other hand, Caribbean Heart Pine, while it looks great; in order to match the age of good reclaimed floors requires experience. Adding age requires adding distress to the edges and or face of the floors. Wire brushing and “French Bleed”, darkening and distressing the edges are both excellent ways to create the illusion of age.
Nail hole “live or memorex”
Nashville Investors
Rule number one, buy real wood. Real wood is an investment, everything else just a lease. Homeowner equity becomes shareholder profits. A product is something you buy and use then replace, an investment provides some form of return.
Solid Heart Pine floors are an investment not a product
Nashville is no different from any other city, 95% of the flooring professionals push veneers or worse, composites. First of all, not all engineered (veneers) are all bad, but unless they have a 4MM wear layer, or better, they cannot be refinished. Unfortunately, years of carpet are now being deposited in your landfills with the next waive being composites.
The footprint of fake wood
If you listen to most “environmental” warriors, logging and timber is the equivalent of fossil fuels when accessing a carbon footprint. This is ridiculous. Managed timber doesn’t lend itself to wildfires. And real wood doesn’t end up in the landfill. If every house only had one floor over its lifetime, how many installations would that save? Real wood floors will outlive your house. In fact, one day they will be reclaimed or salvaged as they are reinvented a century later. Try that with laminate.
Why do people buy ‘single use’ floors? A product designed with planned obsolescence ridiculous promises and useless warranties. Manufactures and their distributors have four conventions per year and one huge one just to talk about all the new and latest technology that they are going to sell homeowners. All of this is to perpetuate a population of consumers and salespeople buying into a false premise, fake is better than real.
View On Airbnb2 Bedroom Loft on Chattanooga’s North Shore
Nashville do not settle for a flooring lease, buy one that will outlive your home and one day be reclaimed. It is not too expensive, not at all, but you will hear the opposite when shopping. Trust logic and get the floor you want, buy real wood.
How about 1×8 Heart Pine for only $2.75 per square foot? We currently have 8400 square feet available for pick up or shipping from Reidsville, NC, Premiere finishing and coating. Why do we keep the 1×8 Mill Run in NC? Simple, we offer a commercial finish. Yep, all 12′ lengths if you want them that way. Imagine a prefinished wide plank Heart Pine for under $7.00 a sq foot, affordable?
Solid Real Wood Value
1×8 Mill Run Heart Pine floors might be perfect for you, if you understand real wood grades. And more importantly, when purchasing the unfinished version, experience is necessary, it is long and requires planning. Unless you simply buy enough it to “learn as you go”, made possible by the low price. We do not suggest the latter and the 1×8 Mill Run Heart Pine requires only 10% waste just like any other grade.
Wide Plank New Heart Pine
Unfinished, tongue and groove with relief grooves; dual kiln dried, planned smooth with precison edges and ends. This brings us to the the grade, Mill Run. You will have some defects on edges, in knots and mainly some ends will be trimmed. But, for your trouble, a little planning you get a Heart Pine floor at an amazing price.
What is Beadboard? Old-fashioned beadboard cladding consists of individual, generally narrow, boards with a routered “bead” edge on one side and beveled edge on the other. In Louisiana, they called this New Orleans bead board, but it is really the same as the stuff in North Carolina or Montana.
V-Groove Popularity
Today interior designers might tell you that V-groove adds soul to a room. V groove has become so popular a design style has been centered around it, “Shabby Chic”. Compared to bead board V-Groove is less ornate and has “cleaner” lines. This, in my opinion, allows it to work in more modern setting. Painted V-Groove can be used in large spaces, or you can finish it to suit your imagination. See Burnt V Groove.
What is Ship Lap?
Shiplap shiplap boards are joined with an overlapping “rabbet” joint, which usually creates a 90 degree-angled gap in between the boards. At SYP Direct our Shiplap comes in two options; Nickel and Penny. The difference? You guessed it, the width of the “L gap”.
Smooth All Four Sides aka S4S
S4S means no profile smooth all the way around. Our Reclaimed Pine S4S boards can make a great accent wall, and so much more. For more information check out this page and the pictures below.

Tongue and Groove
Tongue and Groove always works for your walls, ceilings and of course, your floors.
Simple, it is a generic term for pine with knots, not a big surprise. What may surprise you, Knotty Pine is not a grade. #2 SYP is not a true grade and differs from mill to mill, i.e., floors or lumber. Lumber mills sort based on defects; knots included. But when a mill produces flooring, Heart Pine flooring, it is sorted based on the amount of visible heartwood, not defects. An astounding 95% of pine floors are produced by dimensional lumber mills using Loblolly or similar farmed species. Age creates not only gorgeous colors and character, durability and stability.
More about Rustic #2 Southern Pine
Southern Yellow #2 Knotty Pine differs from mill to mill depending on the end product. For example, we produce Heart Pine, therefore our #2 knotty pine simply lacks the heart content. Distance from the middle of the tree, not defects, determine our #2 grade. Southern Yellow Pine Direct tells you truth about your options.
Rustic floors, or rustic by definition refers to simplicity, rural or country style. What about flooring? Do knots automatically indicated a “rustic” style or simplicity? The word comes from Latin Rusticus or Rus, “to be country”, or Shabby Chic as we call it today.
Sometimes you feel like a knot, sometimes you don’t! (Anonymous with apologies)
1×8 Mill Run Heart
Our Mill-Run (rustic) Southern Pine floors might be perfect for you, if you understand real wood grades. And more importantly, when purchasing the unfinished version, experience and or a real wood professional are a firm requirement. Unless you simply buy enough it to “learn as you go”, made possible by the low price. We do not suggest the latter and the 1×8 Mill Run Heart Pine requires only 10% waste just like any other grade.
1 x 10 Heart Pine is the widest of our wide plank New Heart Pine. Remember when you see 1x10x12, those numbers are neither 1″ nor 10″, the 12′ is accurate. Only with pine, new pine for that matter. Southern Yellow Pine is not one species, actually there are dozen varieties but Loblolly and Longleaf are the two that matter. Loblolly is grown and farms, sold in box stores and offered at your lumber yard as 2×4’s or tongue and groove. Our Longleaf timber is taken from North Alabama from private landowners and very small batches. A Longleaf pine require 150 to reach maturity whereas farm grown pine will be harvested every 30 years.
3/4 Solid Wide Plank 10″ Heart Pine
In 2016, we shipped 4000 square feet of 1x 10 Heart Pine to the Richmond Virginia area for a new construction project. At the time we had no idea the customer would generate what most at SYP Direct believe to be our “best looking floor”. Professional photography, an amazing site finish in a 5 million dollar home, it does make for a great picture. The good news, if you know how to finish Heart Pine you can create this exact floor for much less than you might think. At somewhere around $3.50 per square foot, unfinished this 1 x 10 Heart Pine can become your million dollar floor.

1x10 Wide Plank
1 x 10 Heart Pine versus #2 “Knotty Pine
Heart Pine or Knotty Pine floors sounds like you are choosing between knots and no knots or at least fewer. Not true, New Heart Pine has knots in the 50-80% grade. When you look at descriptions, you will see percentage ranges such as 50-80% or 85% plus. These percentages tell us how much heartwood is visible on the face of each board. A board with less than 50% heart content on the face, it becomes a #2 grade, not because of defects but lack of proximity to the center of tree. Heart Pine ranges 50-80% heart content with more narrow grades having a higher percentage of heart to sap. For information about our standard grades, check out our floors.
