Antique Reclaimed Heart Pine prices have more to do with where you are, than the actual materials.  Names and grades mean very little unless you understand the process used by the producer. Rustic might mean knots or it could mean holes and cracks, “rustic is in the eye of the beholder”.  Rustic might have nail holes or it might have nails still in the boards. Prime or select can mean vertical grain, or simply ‘void of knots and defects’, there is no standard by which manufactures must follow. When prices get so crazy on top end it skews the entire market. What can you expect to pay?

River Reclaimed is the newest “hot” name in the antique market. Ryan at Aloha Hardwoods (Tampa) had a $22.00 per square foot offer before he convinced his customer to substitute our New Heart Pine.  Ryan was able to buy, finish and install our floors for less than 1/2 that amount. So why do people pay these crazy amounts? In many instances, they are unaware that substitutes are available that, when finished properly, can fool almost anyone into believing it is Antique. The picture to our left, is it reclaimed or new Heart Pine? Do not be fooled by saw marks, they can happen after market! These boards are New Heart Pine with distressing saw marks- nice huh? The prices of Antique Reclaimed Heart Pine are really determined by the provenance, or the history of the floors. Nobody wants to buy “old chicken houses” when whiskey barn sounds so much better! Do not buy a story, understand the market and the products. And please, get a second opinion or price, it can save you a fortune.
