SYP Direct offers 3 grades of Southern Pine. However, if you find yourself comparing box stores and liquidation store pine to SYP Direct, prepare for some interesting “grades”. Our favorite is select #2 Knotty, why is this one so meaningless? All #2 is select; as select in this context means ‘hand selected’, i.e. not by machine. So all, pine grades are select but they use it to add the perception of quality, when if fact the opposite is true.
The 3 Grades of Southern Pine Flooring
Our 3 grades of Southern Pine
SYP Direct offers three (3) grades of Southern Pine. They include, #2 Southern Yellow “knotty” pine, #1 Clear Pine and our amazing Heart Pine. #2 Grade, aka Knotty or Character Southern Pine- The New Heart Pine & #2 Knotty are the exact same boards from the exact same trees with the exact same knots. The only grading standard of our 3 grades of Southern Pine? It is heart content which is expressed in either a range, or minimum; all of which is visible on the face of each board.
C & Better, aka Clear is one of the 3 grades of Southern Pine
Unfinished (C & Better) Clear Southern Yellow Pine – Clear Pine may some small infrequent pin knots, more common in wide planks. Clear pine is great for walls as painting is a breeze without knots to worry about. Our best- selling profile for wood siding would be either V Groove or Nickel Gap, both which looks amazing, inside and out. For more information send us this contact form.
Heart Pine about content
New Heart Pine- is not new at all! In fact, the term, alerts the buyer, ‘not reclaimed’ and can be very confusing. FYI, the yellow indicates ‘hard pine’, as in not White. Our New Heart Pine will contain a minimum of 50% visible heartwood on the face of every board, reaching up to 85%. Ignore the word new, it helps when comparing antique heart pine, as if price would not do that easily enough.
