Reclaimed Pine may be Antique Heart, Dirty Top, “Naily” or “Oily”, as if manufactures have their own language. Our new partner serves as our interpreter, allowing us to finally offer these popular floors to our customers. Furthermore, they procure their own materials! For SYP Direct, this is key and one of the main reasons we have not marketed reclaimed floors on a full-time basis, trust. Our new partner loves wood and is 100% committed to the product, another key for our venture. Why so important? Simple, manufactures can easily fool buyers and or short change them with grades. When price ranges vary so dramatically the lure of big money causes some producers of reclaimed materials to lie, simple as that. Our A+ BBB rating is at our core and we will protect it by protecting you.
Why buy Antique Reclaimed Pine?
In general, there are four reason for purchasing Antique Reclaimed Heart Pine. For many it is the story or history, also known as the provenance. For others it is all about the conservation of our existing forest and being Eco-friendly. While many buyers want the hardness and stability provided by time the main reason for their purchase is all about the amazing colors and patina. So, SYP Direct is excited to offer Antique Reclaimed Heart Pine from a trusted source, the starting point no matter your reasons to buy.
Reclaimed Pine versus Salvaged
Do not confuse reclaimed pine with salvaged pine. Reclaimed means repurposed, when a beam becomes a floor, for example. Salvaged pine, are floors torn from houses, much different than the middle of a beam or joist. Knowing the product you are buying can only happen if you know the seller because stories are easy to create. Why does this matter? Prices of course, as salvage flooring is rarely close to the quality of the reclaimed version.
Grades, widths and specifications
Ready for the best part? Because our partner actually sources the materials we are able to produce everyone a custom floor. Seriously, SYP Direct will work with your budget as well as style and taste. Widths up to 12″ are available and of course, we offer multiple width floors in two distinct grades. The #1 grade, as seen to our right, and the #2 grade are available in 1/2 or 3/4″ tongue and groove flooring or ship lap.
Reclaimed Pine and Antique Reclaimed Heart Pine are two different things.
The #1 grade is your true Antique Reclaimed Heart Pine created from large beams, with tight grain and amazing patina. Each board contains a minimum of 85% heartwood with stable knots when they are present. As for the #2 grade Antique Reclaimed Pine which comes from decking materials or joist materials, you find more contrast and variations. Did anyone notice the wording? The #2 grade is missing the word Heart, why you ask? It is missing because this was never Heart Pine but simply old growth Southern Pine. What this means to you, the customer is honesty because this is the first manufacturer we found in 7 years that actually tells you the truth.
Specialty Versions of Reclaimed Pine; “Naily” Oily and Dirty Top
What is Dirty top? Normally reclaimed pine available smooth or with saw marks. Some of you may be asking what is dirty top pine? When people talk about dirty top pine, what they are referring to is the original surface created over time. Dirty top may, however, be either rough or smooth. Antique Heart Pine reclaimed from old textile mills gives us our “Oily Reclaimed Pine”. Throughout the 100+ years of operation, the textile machines may have dripped some oil into the heart pine. These floors have some of that oil in them which provides the unique look and the name, “Oily Pine”.
