Southern Yellow Pine Direct may not sound like a company with amazing Hardwood floors such as; White Oak, Red Oak and Walnut, but it is one of our secrets. We sell hardwood floors, unfinished and prefinshed. When we started in 2014, our focus was on our brand and our Heart Pine. We have sold over 3,600,000 square feet, to homeowners. Nationwide is not a slogan, our floors reside in 49 states and counting. The lone holdout is Alaska, in case you were wondering. Yes, Hawaii is on our list, just one floor but we are still very proud.

Unfinished Hardwood floor prices- White Oak
White Oak prices are contingent upon Whiskey and Wine barrel demand. Seriously, White Oak is the wood of choice and FDA will not let them reuse barrels anymore. You can ask me why, and I can tell you what reasoning they use, but it does not make a lot of sense.
Hardwood floors – Red Oak
Red Oak is commonly found in the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada. At Carlisle, we harvest Red Oak timbers exclusively from the ample forests of New Hampshire and Vermont, where cold winters make for slow-growing trees that produce tight, consistent grain within the floorboards, allowing for exceptional widths and lengths.
Hardwood floors- what species is the durable.
Red Oak has a Janka hardness rating of 1290, while White Oak’s rating is 1360. By comparison, Hickory has a 1820 rating, hence the phrase “tough as hickory”. American Black Walnut has a 1720 Janka, while its Brazilian cousin Ipe more than doubles that number coming in at 3800 plus.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]
Grades of Hardwood Floors
Select and Better. Hardwood floors graded Select and Better will typically have clear pieces mixed into the bundles. You’ll have minimal variation from the sapwood. There will be virtually no knots or worm holes on these boards though some will be present. The appearance of the grain is strong with very slight color variations of heartwood and sapwood.
The Common Oaks
No. 1 Common. No. 1 Common grade is where much more variation and discrepancies will show through. You will have some knots and wormholes. You will have color variations of the sapwood to heartwood. The color is not as uniform as Clear or Select. There will be some lighter and some darker pieces and depending on the width of the board, you may have that occurring on the same board.
No. 2 Common. No. 2 Common will have a lot of color variations of dark and light pieces from the heartwood and sapwood. There will be an abundance of knots and wormholes. These hardwood floors will have a much more rustic appearance than clear or select. The milling and natural faults of this grade will not be as clean and precise as the above grades.
