Buying real wood is an investment, everything else just a lease that one day goes to the landfill. None of these “single use” floors last as long as they claim and rarely make it through a change in buyers. Some might tell you that “LVT” is cheaper than real wood, yes but a goat is cheaper than a racehorse.
Is Engineered wood the same thing as ‘real wood’?
No, no and no. Need more information? Think repeat business, what good are you if you buy one floor? These products are manufactured using a concept first used by car companies, planned obsolescence. Not familiar with the term? I like to use, engineered to fail, as in 5-7 years and “it is cheaper to get a new one“. I hate that phrase, because that might be true for things like shoes, but not your floor or your car, right? The truth is that your floor should be the last thing of value, besides the bricks, that are salvaged when your home is gone.
Solid Wood Flooring; Engineered by Mother Nature
No, buying engineered hardwoods is not the same thing as buying real wood. When we talk about buying real wood, we are referring to 3/4 solid, as in all the way through solid. Engineered hardwoods are solid in millimeter thickness, i.e. 2mm. Although the entire board is 1/2 ” or even 5/8 ” thick the wood portion is 2mm or .019 inches. Now, you next question might be, ” can that be refinished”? The answer is absolutely not, and anybody that tells you different is not telling the truth.
Buying real wood is easy with us, it is all we sell.
Not only is it all that we sell, it is kind of a soapbox. Over 200 post and pages on this site, its a good bet 90% mention real wood. Why would we possible specialize in a low margin, heavy unfinished flooring product? Because it is what it best for you, the homeowner, and if not you the house itself because the next owner will not have to rip anything out. Our business, sales and profits take care of themselves if we act in good faith as ‘advisors’ for your investment. Which essentially means making sure “you do not get ripped off” and explain real wood floors without an agenda.
Buying real wood floors directly from a mill
Southern Yellow Pine Direct allows customers to, essentially use our account for a product they would otherwise not be able to purchaser. Furthermore, our mill partnership (s) allows us a quality control unheard of in our business. Not impressed, wondering if milled to order is just another marketing gimmick? It could not be further from marketing, it is the truth that you will never hear in when shopping for anything other than real wood. Think about it, nothing is sitting around on a shelf waiting to be matched with another run, weeks later. Every board of your floor comes from the same timber which is milled all together creating a continuity important to the look and the ease of installation.
Buying real wood flooring actually gets better with age
he homeowner obtains access to the actual source, milled to order New Heart Pine. No boxes and no short pieces; and always real wood, engineered by Mother Nature. Our high-quality, unfinished, authentic Southern Pine allows the DIY to create a floor that fits your personal style. Why is this important? Seriously, we have been writing this stuff for 12 years…the same thing over and over. We actually go to bat for homeowners who are in danger of getting engineered or LVT packaged together with installation.
Buying real wood, “better with age”.
Of course I say the same thing about myself, but in this case it is true, Southern Pine gets better with age. What about hardwoods, like White Oak and Walnut? Frankly, antique white oak does not age like Heart Pine and Walnut really not at all when comparing the change in the ‘richness of color’. You could say that you are not getting the bang for your buck, if you have to tell people that it is antique Walnut because it looks so much like the “new stuff”. Not with pine, the patina is rich and where there is sap you see the amazing reds and dark browns with contrast. See more pictures on Pinterest.
